This extensively illustrated catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition Irish Women Artists: 1870 – 1970 which took place in Adam’s Dublin and the Ava Gallery Clandeboye, Co. Down, Summer 2014. 

 

Size 240 X 165 mm. 128 pages containing over 100 colour illustrations of paintings and sculpture by over 50 of Ireland’s foremost women painters in the period 1870 – 1970.

It celebrates the often overlooked contribution women played in the history of Irish art. Over 50 artists with short biographies and accompanied by 46 images including a number of black and white photographs of the artists. Included are Mildred Anne Butler, Eva and Letitia Hamilton, Evie Hone, Nano Reid, Elizabeth Rivers, Mary Swanzy, Estella Solomons, Mainie Jellett and sculptors Hilary Heron and Gerda Fromel to name but a few. Many come from private collections many were being illustrated for the first time. Introduction essay was by Claire Dalton. This catalogue is a must have for any library dealing with the history of Irish Art.
