This well illustrated catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition The Birth of Modernism in Irish Art 1920-1960, which took place in the State Apartment Galleries, Dublin Castle April – September 2019.

The book features 47 Irish artists that were active in the period from 1920–1960 and examines the role women played in the introduction of Modernism into Irish art. Each artist is represented by one work with short biographies on each. Among the artists included are Evie Hone, Mainie Jellett, Norah McGuinness, Nano Reid, Letitia M. Hamilton, Colin Middleton, William Scott, Louis le Brocquy, Gerard Dillon, George Campbell, Harry Kernoff, Paul and Grace Henry, Sean Keating, John Luke, Daniel O’Neill, Estella Solomons, Mary Swanzy and Jack B. Yeats.
